Jag sitter på en public hearing i parlamentet som hålls av underutskottet för mänskliga rättigheter och lyssnar en diskussion om problemet med hur ny informationsteknologi både kan främja och hota mänskliga rättigheter. Hearingen beskrivs såhär på parlamentets hemsida:
New Information Technologies and Human Rights
The hearing on New Information Technologies and Human Rights will examine how the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) created new opportunities for protecting and advancing human rights but also, on the other hand, how ICT present a series of challenges and threats over the control of citizens and restricting human rights. Representatives of Google Inc. and Nokia Siemens will speak about internet censorship in China and lawful interception in mobile networks and Nokia Siemens Networks' business in Iran.
Members of the Subcommittee on Human Rights will discuss these issues with the representatives of international human rights non governmental organisations. The study on Information and Communication Technologies and Human Rights will be presented to Members
